Location
Mount Calvary is a Christian Baptist Church situated in the Manselton area of Swansea in South Wales. The building is located in an early twentieth century housing area provided originally for lower-middle earners. The "estate" is largely within a mile from the centre of Swansea. It is inner suburban and an entirely residential area with a scattering of shops. Some 8000 people live in the council ward of which it covers a significant part. |
The houses are quite large enough to accommodate families and are relatively affordable in the 21st century. Long term residents still occupy many of them but an increasing number of younger family groups have been moving in, including from immigrant groups. Family groups are, of course, far from conventional in many cases today as in all our society. There was a large Victorian style primary school very close to the church but it has been merged with a neighbouring school with both being closed and a new building constructed nearby. The church used to have regular links with the school. The chapel is about 3 miles from the M4 J46. |
